Torn between “wow, has it really been 6 years since I used this?” and “wow, has it really only been 6 years since I used this?” But LiveJournal feels too unserious (although as soon as I posted this I checked whether the RSS was still updating there, and when I found it wasn't, asked them to fix it—maybe “too social” would be more accurate), and Facebook is even worse, so I suppose I'll give it a try.
I realized there is a deep analogy between speciation in biology and decoherence in many-worlds quantum mechanics. At least if I'm not misunderstanding one or the other of them. A little surprised I've never seen this mentioned before.
My brain seems to be constructed so as to be unable to intuitively (without laborious thought) tell the difference between tears due to wind or sleep deprivation and tears due to sadness, or to chills from low temperature and chills from enjoying the music I'm listening to.
